Here is the latest article in Perfect Circle's 'People Profile' series, and we are delighted to introduce James Redmond, Associate Project Manager at AECOM.

Career History

'I've been working within the Project Management teams here at AECOM since I joined in 2014 and am now working as an Associate Project Manager within the Basingstoke PM team.

I've worked on projects for a number of clients here at AECOM but predominately in the public sector such as Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Justice and Highways England.

These have also varied in their scale and size, varying from projects to re-develop an entire establishment, a ground investigation project to support the delivery of the Lower Thames Crossing, replacement of an military runway and works to replace the render of an existing grade 2* building in Central London. The differences in the challenges for these projects is something I find exciting and working to produce solutions for client’s is an activity I really enjoy'.

Career Highlight

'My career highlight was working on Lower Thames Crossing for Perfect Circle to deliver a £12m package of ground investigation works for Highways England. The project's sole purpose was to generate data to help inform the overall proposal for the crossing by establishing a ground model for the potential different routes and managing the client's unknown ground conditions'.

Can you share some examples of Perfect Circle Commissions you have worked on?

'Lower Thames Crossing - Package C3 (2019 - 2021)
Secondment into DIO Regional Delivery South (2021 to 2022)'.

What does a typical day look like?

'As a typical day my role revolves around communication. It can contain communicating directions to the project team or contractor, responding to questions from the client and commenting on documentation that's been provided for my review'.

What do you like most about your role?

'As a Project Manager you get the opportunity to experience many different projects and no one is the same. It's therefore never dull and that's something that keeps me interested as I can never have total certainty as to what's around the corner'.

If you could switch jobs with someone, who would it be?

'It's on my bucket list to press the plunger for a demolition job! So whatever that job role is I think that would be fun to have a crack at!'.

What is your biggest achievement to date?

'I think my biggest professional achievement is the delivery of the works to replace the render of the Grade 2* building situated at Wellington Barracks (London) prior to the Platinum Jubilee for HM Queen Elizabeth II (with three days to spare!)'.

Tell us a secret or guilty pleasure that others would be surprised to find out?

'I'm a bit of a theatre geek having done amdram for most of my youth. So I can be found quite regularly watching or listening to the professionals strut their stuff!'
