In this instalment of Perfect Circle's 'People Profile' series, we are delighted to introduce Zoe Plenderleith, Stantec's Marketing and Communications Manager, Infrastructure.
Region
Based in Scotland, but working across UK & Ireland.
Career History
'I have over 13 years’ experience in marketing and communications across the built environment and professional services.
My work spans strategy, campaigns, content, events, collateral and key account management, alongside a wide range of other activities.
My career has followed a clear progression - from local and regional roles to national and international built environment marketing, with experience in the legal sector along the way.
I also bring strong commercial experience, including business development, creating and managing opportunities, developing new initiatives and services, supporting work-winning activity and delivering award entries - so no two days are the same'.
Career Highlight
'When I worked for Thomas Johnstone Ltd I was identified by the board as a future leader and they invested in a place for me on the company's bespoke Emerging Leaders course.
It was intense but one of the best - and most important - experiences I've had. It's shaped how I approach leading others at all levels, and strategic thinking'.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
'The inspired answer is the drive to make an impact every day. The real answer? My husband's early morning alarm, or my border collie, Murdoch, who's always ready to go!'
What does a typical day look like?
'Every day is different - I don't think I've ever had two days that are the same! One day you could be at a podcast recording on a key theme impacting the public sector. Then the following day you might be writing content about how the private sector can drive planning change. Between strategy, content, communications, events, client engagement - and much more - there's lots of variety!'
What do you like most about your role?
'The diversity, the influence, and the ability to shape how important work is communicated.'
If you could switch jobs with someone, who would it be?
'I would love to have David Attenborough's role - making a real impact, exploring the world, and generally doing things which are good for the soul and inspire others.'
What is your biggest achievement to date?
'Professionally, being trusted to step into a marketing manager role at 25 - something that feels even more significant in hindsight'.
Tell us a secret / guilty pleasure that others would be surprised to find out?!
'My guilty pleasure is crafting – something people don’t expect, as I’m usually seen as very logical and detail-oriented. That creative spark often surprises people!'
